Greenhouse Construction (Again!)

Approximately one year after we built our first commercial greenhouse, we’re back at it again! As you can imagine things are a little bit busier for us this time around than when we were building our first one. This time around we had to balance construction time with the demands of our existing greenhouse, participating in the farmers market on Saturday mornings, and harvesting for weekly deliveries at The Farmer’s Table restaurant. Time to devote to construction was certainly harder to come by!

Thankfully we were able to turn to family and friends for much needed assistance to make the most of the working hours we could set aside. With that being said, we’re excited to say we’re almost done installing the polycarbonate end walls and are hopefully in a position to place the double-layer plastic top cover on before the first snowfall. We’re not worried about the snow as much as we are being able to wrap the greenhouse before the temperatures drop too low, which isn’t ideal for the plastic.

We absolutely loved the craftsmanship with our first greenhouse manufacturer, but supporting a more local company was a bigger priority for us this time around. We’re happy to say we sourced this greenhouse from Tunnel Vision Hoops in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

This greenhouse is slightly larger than our first one, measuring 24’ x 60’. Since we elected to go with higher ground posts, this greenhouse gives us the option to increase the number of hydroponic grow tables we have or we can expand our produce selection to include vining crops grown in beto buckets. We still have a few weeks to chart our path forward and set our growing plans in motion. We look forward to sharing updates with you over the course of the winter as we prepare for our first harvests in greenhouse #2 this spring.
