“Spring” is Here!

Well, “Cleveland weather” lived up to its billing during the first week of Spring. In a seven-day period starting on March 20 we experienced temperatures as high as the 60s to temperatures as low as the 20s and 30s. Did I forget to mention the snowfall? Are we surprised? No. Are we thankful we have a second heated greenhouse this year? Yes!

Our 60’ x 24’ greenhouse from Tunnel Vision Hoops has enabled us to dodge the impacts from Mother Nature and get a jump start on our long season crops including tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. These crops will be taking up three-quarters of the space in this greenhouse, while the remaining space is being utilized by a dedicated NFT table for our herbs and new specialty greens we will be growing this season.

Our tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers will be grown in potting mixtures of peat and perlite. We will be using a drip irrigation system with a fertilizer injector and drip emitters that will provide nutrients directly to each plant. The plant vines will grow with support from polyethylene twine hung from a horizontal trellis wire that hangs above each row of plants.

We’re so excited to expand our produce offerings to our customers this year and we’re looking forward to enjoying the added produce as well! We’ll be sure to update you all through our social media pages when harvesting begins.
